Following from last year’s successful participation in the Barcelona Music Hack Day, the Horizon2020 EU project RAPID-MIX proposes two distinct, exciting challenges that explore gestural interaction in expressive gaming scenarios, and collective experiences using smartphones.
In the first challenge, titled Expressive Gaming Experience through Gesture Interaction, creators are tasked with creating a novel gaming experience (or augmenting an existing one) through the use of interactive gesture recognition technology. Participants are invited to explore the topic of expressive control in videogames that goes beyond the current paradigms (mouse and keyboard, gamepad, simple trigger-based motion controllers). The RAPID-MIX consortium accelerates the production of the next generation of Multimodal Interactive eXpressive (MIX) technologies by producing hardware and software tools and putting them in the hands of users and makers. We have devoted years of research to the design and evaluation of embodied, implicit and wearable human-computer interfaces and are bringing cutting edge knowledge from three leading European research labs to a consortium of five creative companies.

The CoSiMa project aims at developing a platform for collaborative and collective interaction based on recent mobile and web technologies. The envisaged applications include collective audiovisual performances, collaborative games, and interactive fictions in the framework of artistic projects, innovative urban services, and marketing communication. The CoSiMa platform turns the smartphone in everybody’s pocket into a means of collaborative production and collective expression.
